Here’s a list of 5 organic chemistry apps for Android which you can use to learn about organic chemistry using your Android powered tablets or smartphones. Apps that I tested might not have as much info as text books have, but they will help you out if you want to freshen up your knowledge when waiting for the class to start or driving in the bus, but you don’t want to haul books with you. For some who haven’t started studying, these apps will be a great place where to start their organic chem adventures.

Let’s see these apps below.

Organic Reactions is an organic chemistry app, or should I say organic chemistry reminder, which has info on components of reactions in the main functional group of compounds and it also tells you want the end products of their reactions are.

Most of the info in the app is available for free, glossary of terms, info on alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic compounds, haloalkanes, thiols and amines. However, to get access to all the info you will need to purchase the full app.

Organic Chemistry Nomenclature is an organic chemistry quiz app which focuses on figuring out and matching chemical groups to their respective structures.

All the important chemical groups are covered, hydrocarbons, halogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus/boron and heterocycles. After you run the app, you’ll be asked to select which groups out of the 7 that I mentioned you want the quiz to contain and when you click on the “begin quiz” button, the quiz will start, see image above.

Registration is required to go past lecture 1. App keeps track of your progress using percentage points (bottom left corner of the screen). Each lecture has three segments, tutorial (can be seen on the image above), flash cards and a quiz. Tutorial has info pertaining to the selected lecture and the quizzes/flash cards are there to help you further solidify your knowledge.
