Foxit Mobile PDF is a free Metro app for Windows 8 that allows you to open and view PDF files. When you launch the app, you will be presented with an interface through which you can open up a .pdf file by accessing the file browser screen. Simply click on the PDF file that you wish to open up, and click on the Open button in the bottom right corner of the screen. The app also shows you a list of recently opened PDF documents under the Recent tab when you launch the app, and this makes it much easier to open a PDF document that you have recently opened through this app by saving you the cumbersome process of navigating through folders and then selecting the file that you wish to open.
Foxit Mobile PDF has a very smooth interface, and works without any lags or glitches. Foxit Mobile PDF is available for free from the Windows App Store.
Using the Foxit Mobile PDF app on your Windows 8 device…
When you launch the Foxit Mobile PDF app on your device, you will be presented with a screen which looks like the below screenshot.
As you can see in the above screenshot, you have two laid out tabs. The first tab is the Browse tab, clicking on the tile under which allows you to select a PDF file that you wish to view from the file browser screen. Once you click on the tile under the Browse tab, by default, the My Documents folder will open up, but you can navigate to a different folder through the file browser screen (as you are already used to), and then open up the PDF file from your desired location. The second tab is the Recent Files tab which allows you to view the files that you have recently viewed using the Foxit Mobile PDF app on your Windows 8 device. If you are running this app for the first time, this tab will be blank for you.
In the above screenshot, I have opened up a PDF file for viewing, and this should give you a fairly good idea of the interface of the app. In the above screenshot, I’m viewing the PDF file in a continuous view, and hence you can see a scroll bar at the right. If you want to view a page by page view, simply fire up the control bar and select click on the Single button. Now the scroll bar will disappear and you will get arrows on either side of the screen to switch between various pages. The below screenshot is what a single page view looks like.
The control bar also offers some other self explanatory functions like find, etc. This is all that you need to know to get started with using the Foxit Mobile PDF app on your Windows 8 device.
