Fequal is a free duplicate file finder for Windows which you can use in order to search for duplicate files by both comparing files and comparing shortcuts/links. When files are compared, they are compared using the usual methods, by comparing either their size, or other identifying file info like date of creation. Great thing about this free duplicate file finder is that it will also check to see if files hidden behind shortcuts and links are the same, it’s basically also a duplicate shortcut checker.

Fequal is portable which means that you don’t have to install it in order to use it. Top left corner of the interface allows you to select the directory, directory where you want this free duplicate file finder to look for duplicate files and shortcuts. Underneath the directory selector you can tweak the duplicate file search (turn on/off scan of sub-directories, shortcuts/links, etc).

After that tweak the options little bit further down below to customize the search. When you’re done with that, click on the Search button to start searching for files. Found duplicate files and shortcuts are gonna be listed in the two file lists in the bottom left corner. If you select a file its preview is gonna be shown on the right.
