The Fifth is a neatly and cleverly designed app for Windows 8 that allows you to view and read about the relevant news items that you are interested in. If you are familiar with the Flipboard app, you already know how to use The Fifth app for your Windows 8 device. No, it does not come from the same publisher, the working principle of this app is what makes it as interesting as the Flipboard app. Just like the Flipboard app, The Fifth app when launched for the first time, asks you what topics you are actually interested in reading about, and once you click on the + button in front of each topic, the app then shows you relevant news, which is much better than filling up your entire screen with unnecessary news items that you might not want to read.

The Fifth has a very clean look to it, with an extremely simple interface. The app worked flawlessly on my test machine, and I had absolutely no issues while running it. The Fifth is easily available from the Windows App Store.

The above screen should present itself automatically in front of you. However if it does not present itself automatically in front of you, click the back button in the top-left screen corner (see the first screenshot) once you are done with subscribing to various sources. Let’s quickly go ahead and read about something now, shall we?

Here, at the left side of the screen, we have a clean interface from which we can choose to click on any article, and at the right side, the article opens itself. You also have the option to view the article in your default internet browser, by right clicking on the article that you wish to open in your browser, and then selecting the Open in browser option from the control bar that flies up from the bottom of the screen.

docked

This app also works perfectly in docked view, and hence the entire process of multitasking is made much easier. To sum it all up, this is pretty much everything that you need to know to get started with using The Fifth app on your Windows 8 device.
