Tiles is a free software to arrange desktop icons. It provides a stylish Windows 8 like sidebar where you can add desktop icons as tiles. The sidebar has two different pages, namely my tiles & apps, and you can slide through them to add icons. There are a lot of settings as well that you can do, to suit your interest and needs. You can right click on the sidebar to access the configuration window and make the changes. The software also has paid versions and they contain a lot of other features as well.

Download And Add Icons On The Sidebar

Tiles is a very lightweight software and does not occupy much space on your system. After you download and install it, a sidebar will appear on the right side of your desktop. You can change the position of the sidebar later on. The sidebar contains two pages: my tiles & apps. You can add icons to both these pages and you have to slide through to access the second page. The software also allows you to rename these pages.

To start adding icons to the pages in the sidebar, you just have to drag and drop them. Select the icon you want to put in the sidebar, then drag and drop it in the sidebar. The apps page contains shortcut icons of the running applications in your system, by default and you can add icons of other applications on it. On my tiles page, you can add icons for other shortcuts on your desktop. This way, you can arrange desktop icons in the sidebar, one by one, and clear out your desktop. You can also add icons for other programmes in your system. The only feature one misses here is that you cannot add new pages to the sidebar. This feature has been reserved for the paid version.

This software to arrange icons looks to be a very attractive one at first sight. The icons that you drop in the sidebar are attached as tiles. These tiles contain a mini- thumbnail of the window and its icon. These are only visible in the active applications tiles ( see in the above screenshot). The software allows you to switch on/ off these thumbnails and icons in the tiles.

Apart from the above mentioned settings, this software to arrange desktop icons allows you to configure a lot of other things as well. You have to right click on the sidebar to access the configuration window. There are multiple tabs in it, wherein, you can make a lot of changes. You can choose to hide a particular page in the sidebar, select the size of the icon, switch on/off the caption along with the icons, and more. You can also select the position of the sidebar, and grayscale the icons on it.
