This article details how to email Whatsapp chat conversation with any user. WhatsApp makes it extremely easy to email entire chat history with any user. All you have to do is select the contact whose chat conversation you want to email, and WhatsApp will forward the entire conversation log to you as an Email attachment, via your smartphone’s Email app. You can use this feature to individually backup conversation logs with all your WhatsApp contacts. Moreover, you can choose whether to include media (photos, audio clips etc. exchanged during your WhatsApp conversations) in the backup or not. This feature works with all versions of WhatsApp, regardless of what smartphone OS platform you use. Excited? Head past the break to find out more.

WhatsApp is the most popular mobile IM application out there, with over 500 million users. It lets you send instant text messages, short audio clips, pictures, location info, and more. Billions of WhatsApp messages are exchanged by users on a daily basis. And since it’s much faster and instant than the traditional SMS, most smartphone users these days rely on WhatsApp for exchanging not just casual messages, but important information as well. Moreover, a lot of users exchange photos via WhatsApp as well.

Sometimes you might want to email Whatsapp chat conversation with a particular user to someone. For example, you might have discussed an idea with someone over Whatsapp. You can just forward entire Whatsapp conversation to whosoever you want to share with.

Note: I’ll be using two different devices for the purpose of this tutorial. One of them is an Apple iPhone 4S, running iOS 7.1.1, while the other is a LG Nexus 4, running Android 4.4. As such, the tutorial consists of a number of combo screenshots. The screenshot on the left is from the iOS device, and that on the right from the Android device.

How to Email Whatspp Chat History:

The following combo screenshot shows a sample WhatsApp conversation between two users (One having an iOS device, and the other an Android device). Note that the conversation includes text messages, as well as a photo (WhatsApp conversations can include photos, recorded audio clips, location info etc.).

Step 1: Go back to the Chat list to see all your WhatsApp conversations, so that you can select the one that you want to backup / email.

Step 2: On the iOS device, swipe left on the conversation you want to backup, and tap more. Once you do that, a pop-up menu comes up. Select Email Conversation. On the Android device, tap and hold on the conversation that you want to email, and when the pop-up menu comes up, select Email Conversation.

Step 3: Since the conversation also includes media (a photo, in this case), WhatsApp gives you a notification of the same, and asks you whether you want the media in the email backup or not. Obviously, choosing to include media in the email message backup will result in a larger email message. Select accordingly.

attach media or not

Step 4: Once you do that, WhatsApp automatically fires up the default Email app on your smartphone, with a pre-composed Email message. The Email message already has its subject and body fields populated. The subject field reads “WhatsApp Chat with <username>”, and the body text details that the chat history is attached as a text file to this Email. The textual elements of the chat conversation and the media elements are attached separately. Check out the screenshot below:

That’s it. Now all you have to do is send this message to anyone whom you want to share this conversation with. You can even use this as a way to keep a backup of chat conversation.

This message consists of different constituents of a WhatsApp conversation (textual elements, photos, audio clips) attached as individual attachments. Here’s a little lowdown on how they’re attached:

  • The textual chat elements are included as a simple text file.
  • Photos are attached in the format they are shared (JPG, PNG etc.).
  • Audio clips are included in AAC format.

Conclusion

WhatsApp is one of the most popular, if not the most popular way most smartphone users communicate with each other these days. With so much of messages, photos, and other media being shared on it on a daily basis, you will definitely come across a situation when you want to share a Whatsapp conversation with someone else. Thankfully, Whatsapp makes it extremely easy to email any Whatsapp conversation to anyone.
