Directory Monitor is a free software that allows you to monitor the files in the directories on your computer. It monitors the directories for any changes including file modifications, deletions and new files. Directory Monitor can monitor the local directory and network shares. You can execute an application when an event is triggered.
Earlier I had reviewed a free software called Prevent that disables copying, deleting, and renaming of files and folders. Directory Monitor is a similar type of software, but instead of disabling these changes, it keeps a tracks of such changes, and can execute some application when some change happens.

Directory Monitor will scan your computer and detect a new directory so that it can be monitored. The balloon notifications pop up whenever an event is triggered. Directory Monitor allows you to add, edit, remove, copy, refresh, import and export a file to a directory. You can configure the changes that Directory Monitor will monitor including new files, modifications, deletions, and renames. Directory Monitor can also monitor events of the sub directories as well.

The advance options allow expert users to configure the program to their needs. The log entries can be automatically removed if it is not valid. You can request export when restarting after an update. You can enable of disable the tool tips. You can configure the time for the balloon tips, refresh directories and check updates. You can configure Directory Monitor to confirm actions. Directory Monitor can also log debug trace information.
Directory Monitor is completely free, and a nice application to keep track of changes to your directories.
