Our computers are incredibly powerful machines on their own. However, it’s the innumerable software applications that make them the productivity beasts that they are. And when it comes to using (paid) software applications, it’s very important that you only use the software programs that you’ve legally purchased. Now, if we talk about Windows 10, it comes with its own product key, just like any other paid software product. However, it’s not unlikely to sometimes use the wrong key with the OS, thereby exposing it to security risks.

But fear not, as Windows 10 easily lets you change the product key (provided you have it beforehand, that is). Sounds like something you can use? Take a look at how you can change the Windows 10 product key, past the jump.

Changing the Windows 10 product key is actually a lost easier than you think, and requires nothing more than a handful of mouse clicks. The only (obvious) requirement is that you must have the 25 character product key handy with you, before proceeding. Read on the extensive, screenshot-laden walkthrough, and things should be just fine:

Step 1: With Settings (Yep. the modern UI toting app) running, click on the Update & security sub-module.

Step 2: A couple of options should now show up in the left pane. Click on Activation, and focus on the facing right pane. Under the solitary Windows sub-section, click on the Change product key button. In the pop-up box that comes up, enter your 25 character Windows 10 product key (dashes are added automatically). As you finish doing that, the key will be automatically verified via Microsoft’s activation servers, and a confirmation message will be displayed on successful verification. That’s it, fellas.
