In this tutorial, you will learn how to edit or delete sent texts on iPhone iMessage app. The new iOS 16 released a few days ago which comes packed with a lot of new exciting features. One of those amazing features is the ability to unsend a message or edit a sent text. You can now edit any text you have sent to someone withing a short timeframe. The receiver on the other end however will know that you have made edits.

This text editing feature is new and useful if you made a typo in the text. You’ll now have 15 minutes to correct your mistake. In addition, there is one more restriction, that you can only edit a message up to five times. Both the sender and receiver must have iOS 16 in order for these new features to work. These options will not work on the older version of iPhone.

How to Edit or Delete Sent Texts on iPhone iMessage?

The very first thing you have to make sure is that your iPhone is updated to the latest iOS. If not, then go to Settings > General > Software Updates. Here you check and see if your device has registered an update. Update your phone and then open the iMessage app to send a text.

Now, long tap on a sent text and then in the popup options, you will now see two new options: edit and unsend. To edit a message, simply use the Edit option. Edit your text and then you are done.

When you edit a text, the other person will know it. iMessage will attach the edit history. See the following screenshot, showing an edited message on receiver’s end.

In the same way, from the popup, you can use the unsend option. It will delete the message from both the devices. However, the option to unsend a message will not appear if the recipient has seen the message.

This is how you can now unsend or edit messages on iPhone. It works pretty much in the same way it works on other IM apps, such as Telegram.
