In this post, I will show you how to use Discord as free cloud storage to store files such as photos, documents, and videos. Disbox is a free open source tool that lets you use a Discord server as a free unlimited cloud storage. This is basically a web app that you can self-host or you can use the free online version that it offers. It works along with a Chrome extension that helps you download the content back which you have already uploaded.
If you use Discord a lot, then you can use it to store your files for free. And in this post, I will walk you through a step-by-step process to do it with ease. You only need a spare or personal Discord server, and it creates a channel in that server to store all the files. You don’t have to worry about the files that it pushed in Discord channel. The web UI will organize those files and you will be able to delete them as well.
Disbox also lets you create folders and then in those folders, you can upload files. The web UI is very simple and displayed all the files that you have uploaded so far with their names. You can anytime download those files and it even shows you the path to the file in the virtual cloud storage that it creates for you.
How to use Discord Server as Free Unlimited Cloud Storage?
If you have a spare server, then you can just open it in the browser or in the Discord app. And if you don’t have any spare sever, just create one. Open it and then navigate to the General channel.
Open the server settings from the top left side and scroll down to Integrations. From here, you just create a new webhook. You can name it anything and after creating it, you just copy its link. The option to copy the webhook URL is given there.
Now, you open the Disbox web app from here. You go to the Setup section and then paste the webhook URL that you just copied. Click Continue and then it will take you to the blank page. This is basically the web UI for the cloud that it has created for you. From here, you can start to upload files.
For download assistance, you can install the Disbox Chrome extension from here. After that, you go back to the Disbox cloud storage web UI and then you will be able to download files back to the PC. Or, you can also delete them if you want to. This is as simple as that.
Disbox uses the first Welcome-and-rules channel of the server to store files. The file extension is removed and is renamed to a random name. You can turn open this channel after uploading a few files and it will look something like this.
In this way, you can use this simple web app to turn Discord into unlimited free cloud storage. This is open source and you can always host your own instance of Disbox anywhere. You can either host it on a VPS or you can simply run it locally as well.
