Vox is a lightweight and straightforward audio player for Mac OS X. This is a no hassle, simple, and fast music player. This application supports many types of audio files including most of the popular formats that you might come across. This free music player for Mac was formally named ToolPlayer. This music player for Mac can play audio files only. If you are looking for a simple media player that can handle video, then go for VLC for Mac.
If you are tired of bloated music players, then maybe Vox is good fix for your itch. It is very fast, and obviously basic. This player is basic but it is not low on the style and looks. Vox app has really amazing and elegant interface. Vox is meant for those who would like to play the music directly from the folder and do not care about the advanced feature that newer players offer. The app provides you with basic playlist management tool as seen below.
To play a file just navigate to File -> Open and browse for files and open them up or simply drag a file or files to the player, and Vox will start playing it. One thing that I liked about this app is that it automatically adds all the songs in a folder. But if you would like to add a selection of individually selected songs then it does not do this.
The application now supports Growl and you can scrobble what you are listening to directly through the app directly to Last.fm. To access these settings open up preferences.
Now that I am done with the general introduction; let’s go through some boring technical stuff about this free music player for Mac.
