4dots Free PDF Compress is a free software to bulk compress PDF files to reduce their size. It helps to reduce image quality of PDF files, which makes compression process quite easy. Based on image quality level (0-100), selected by you, PDF files will be compressed. While testing this software, I compressed a 71 MB size PDF file upto 4.03 MB in size (image quality level was 11 percent)!.
Compression process depends on two factors: total number of images in your PDF file, and image quality selected by you. More the images and smaller the image quality, better would be the compression.
Note: The compressed files stay in PDF format. I am not talking about compressing PDF files to zip / other formats. And that is the best part of this software.
This software basically reduces the quality of the images that are included your PDF file. So, it takes the PDF, reduces the quality of images, and adds them back to the PDF to create compressed PDF. It not only compresses images, it does other things as well to compress PDF (I also tried it with a PDF that had only text, and it reduced its size by around 40%).
Even though it reduces images quality, you won’t see lot of different between original and compressed files. That’s why it is one of the best software that falls in this category.
