In this article we are covering free Windows 10 Thesaurus apps. We all sometimes try to find a word with similar meaning that will enhance the beauty of the sentence. Lot of authors or creative writers can vouch for that. Thesaurus as we all know is a group of same words which have similar meaning. It is quite different from dictionary where you get definition of a word. So in the book world, thesaurus and dictionary are two different books. Whereas, in the app world some of the apps combine these two functionalities into one.
The apps that we are covering also do the same. Some apps combine the dictionary and thesaurus together. While there is just one app which is purely thesaurus the other three have the two combined into one app. All these apps can be downloaded from the Windows 10 app store for free. Let’s look at these free Windows 10 thesaurus apps below.
Thesaurus is the only free app in Windows 10 store, that provides a standalone functionality. It is a thesaurus only and does not have any other features or functionalities. When you start this app you will see a screen like the one seen in the screenshot above. You can enter the search term in the field provided. At the bottom of the app page you will have the option to copy the word meanings, or change settings of the app.
From settings option you can select the language you want the word synonyms in. There are two languages to choose from English and German. You can also choose to sort the words using the drop down menu given. This can be seen in the screenshot above. Once you choose the language you can start by entering the search word.
As you enter the search word and click the search button. Similar meaning words will be displayed below the search bar, as shown in the screenshot above. You can copy any words you want to use or archive words. Archived words can be viewed later on without having to enter words in the search bar.
Advanced English Dictionary and Thesaurus
Advanced English Dictionary and Thesaurus has both a dictionary and a Thesaurus. The thesaurus is not a separate entity then the dictionary. The dictionary will display similar words itself. When you enter a word in the search bar of the app, you will see the results for it as shown in the screenshot above. You will get definition of the word you entered in the search box along with hyponyms and hypernymns. These are basically words similar to the one you entered.
This dictionary sources its data from WordNet which is a large database of English developed by Cognitive Science Laboratory at Princeton University. You can see synonyms, antonyms, similar words, etc.
WordWeb Dictionary is a free dictionary and thesaurus app. The app is free to use and can be used offline as well. Even though the app is free you will find no ads on it. You can enter the word you are looking for in the search bar of the top left side. The definition of the word will be displayed on the right side of the app. This can be seen in the above screenshot. Below the definition of the word you will see similar or related words.
The search word meaning is displayed in its noun form, adjective form, verb form, etc. The icon with books in it shows you the source of this app. The settings option lets you change display settings, and you can choose what all you want to be displayed along with the definition of a word. Like you can choose to include antonyms, synonyms, examples, type of words, etc. You can also change the bookmark, search options settings as well.

Dictionary – Free! gives you a simple way to search for similar words. Look at the screenshot above. You can see two tabs, one for dictionary and one for thesaurus. As we are talking about thesaurus apps, we will choose the thesaurus tab. Once you do that, enter a search word in the search bar given. The thesaurus will display all the word with a similar meaning to the word that you entered. You can also see the definition of the word. You can also see antonyms displayed on screen for you.
