SmartTab is a free replacement for Alt-Tab that allows users to jump between screens without having to use the Windows alt-tab dialogue. With this free simple tabbing application, you’ll be able to view all Windows icons and full titles, with a cursory glance. No more will you look at half sentences for screens or programs with long names.

To start using Alt-Tab, just start this application. After that, when you do Alt-tab, you will get SmartTab window that will show you icon, and complete title of each application. To choose a window from that, you can either use the same way as you do in Alt-Tab, or, you can just type the character that is shown corresponding to that window. You can even select the window from your mouse, or just use mousewheel.

The designer and creator of this useful tabbing gadget, allows users to configure colors via a command line parameter as well as highlight the flashing program or screen on the Windows taskbar. This free small tabbing tool is available for computers running Windows 2000 and Windows XP. At present it will not function on Vista or Windows 7.

SmartTab does not require installation and only operates while the computer is running. That is to say, when you turn off your computer, you will lose the application. For those who wish to run this tabbing application every time he or she is online, adding the program to Windows startup menu will ensure that every time the computer is started, so too is SmartTab.
