Intercom for Android is a simple walkie talkie app for Android. This app is for only vocal communication. When you open this app, it asks you to choose a method to connect to another device. The available methods are

  • Bluetooth: Pair both devices through Bluetooth.
  • WiFi: Create hotspot on one device and connect another device to it (similar to other file sharing apps like ShareX, etc.)

Once the connection is established, the other device appears in this app. From there, you can simply tap the device and start talking. Above the device list, there are options to enable/disable audio input and output. There is also a chat option next to the audio option which lets you send text messages as well.

When the audio input is on, this app shows animation for audio input to let you know that it is taking the input. If you find the always-on mic annoying, you have the option to set the input voice sensitivity from the settings.

When you open this app,  the welcome screen asks you to select the communication type. For walkie talkie, tap the mic icon and for image sharing, tap the camera icon.

When you choose any of these options, this app asks you to select the communication method. This app has four communication options

  • Bluetooth: When the devices are connected through Bluetooth.
  • WiFi Direct: When devices are connected through WiFi Direct.
  • WiFi: When both devices are connected to the same WiFi network.
  • WiFi Hotspot: When one device is connected to another device’s hotspot.

In case you have a problem with the audio quality, you can turn on/off voice filtering and set the audio sample rate from settings. This app also gives you an option to use the volume button to talk.
