SQL Play is a free app for Android to practice SQL commands on phone. Here this app comes for iOS and Android both and covers basic as well advanced SQL queries. It offers you a built-in database and an SQL guide from which you can learn SQL commands. It has a SQL editor in which, you can type SQL queries or simply select them from the docs to run them.

This SQL training app is good for students and beginners in programming. Here it uses an SQLite database underneath which supports almost all the features of SQL. The app runs in offline mode and offers a simple SQL editor. However, some features of the app are in premium plan such as SQL history. And in the later updates there will be an option to use a custom database.

There is no sign up or users’ roles in this SQL app. You can use it right after you install it from the Google Play. Or, you can use this link to install it from the Apple app store. For this post, I will be using the app on Android, so when you run it for the first time, you will see the following screen first.

Now, you can start running the SQL queries in the app. Tap on the search icon from the top to search for a specific SQL command. Alternatively, it will bring up a list of all the SQL available commands. Tap on anyone and it will show you the complete syntax. Tap on the command again and then it will load it in the editor.

When the command loads in the editor, just hit the play button from the bottom right side. If the command runs successfully then it will show you the output. Otherwise, an error will be raised and then you can analyze that and fix it.

This way, you can use this simple app to learn and practice SQL on your phone. Just select the command from the list to run and see the output. Or, you can type the command manually and then execute it to see the error/output. The database is fixed in the app for now but in the later updates, you will be able to use your own database to practice SQL.

Final thoughts:

If you use your phone more often to learn things then you install this app and practice SQL anytime. The best part is that the app runs in offline mode, so you can just use it anytime and anywhere. I liked the fact that it lets you run SQL queries manually as well so you can test your skills.
