This article covers a free app to stop pocket dialing on Android. Pocket dialing is an old problem from the era of basic feature phones which is still around and happens with smartphones as well. It could be more annoying on smartphones as having accidental input on touch devices is much easier than a phone with buttons.
Pocket Mode is a free Android app that prevents the pocket dialing on smartphones. This app uses the proximity sensor to avoid this problem. It automatically turns off the phone screen when the proximity sensor gets covered like when you put your phone in the pocket. With that said, let’s check out how to use this app.
Stop Pocket Dialing on Android with This Free App
Pocket Mode is a free app available on the Play Store. Search this app on the store and install in on your phone. This app has a single page layout with a toggle for the pocket mode at the top. Toggling the pocket mode on activates the app and automatically turns off the screen when the proximity sensor is covered.
This app has a troubleshooting option just below the toggle where you can test whether the pocket mode is working or not. It has a button that locks the screen. If tapping on that button locks your screen then the pocket mode is working. And, if it doesn’t do anything then do a reboot and the pocket mode would be activated upon reboot. This reboot is important if you don’t reboot the app won’t work. And, if somehow the app stops functioning anytime, a reboot would fix that.
There are a couple of more options for user ease. One option is to adjust the time delay before the screen after covering the proximity sensor. And the other option is to turn on vibration before locking which lets you know that the screen is off now.
