GitHub Writer is a free WYSIWYG editor for GitHub issues, pull requests, and wikis. Basically, this is a Chrome extension that adds WYSIWYG functionality in the markdown editor that GitHub already offers. After adding this extension whenever you type markdown code in GitHub, it will automatically preview the output. This is as simple as that. Apart from adding WYSIWYG functionality, it adds some more features in the GitHub editor as well such as inserting a table. There is no sign-up or something like that here to use the extension. Just install it and forget.

GitHub editor is good but for newbies, it can be difficult to handle. The main problem arises in creating wikis and readme files. You cannot preview the code you have written as you either have to push the changes to view the file or you have to use an external markdown editor. GitHub Writer solves this problem as you can see the output of the code instantly as you type it. This is a good option for people who don’t know the markdown very well an often confuse with the syntax.
