Media Center Mail comes in two parts:

  • An independent Windows application that allows the user to configure the Windows Media center mail.
  • The Add-on for the Windows Media Center utility that enables the user to view e-mails right from the Windows Media center.

Before starting to use the add-on , it has to be synchronized with the Media Center application. This can be done in the following steps:

  • A separate account for every sender has to be created on the system. The mail server that has to be accessed, the port number and the SSL connection with the server, all have to be specified in the configuration Window.
  • The username /password for the email account and specifications to include an encrypted connection with the mail server, all of these have  to be specified explicitly on the configurations Window and saved. Once configured the Application is ready to use.

Further the user can modify a few settings for convenience. The settings that need to be set include:

  • The intervals at which a lookup has to be made in the Mail Server, so that new mails can be retrieved.
  • The sound alert and the notification to be displayed up on reception of a new e-mail. A picture can be assigned to each user.
  • The scope of the add-on configuration. Here the user can limit this Add-on facility to his account alone or he can extend it to all the users that use the system.

The  mails from  different senders are listed in a separate Window and the user can choose to read the mails one after the other. Once the mail has been read, it can be deleted or marked as read.

Thus Windows Media Center can be used to read mails, with the help of the Media Center Mail utility.

Try Media Center Mail and start checking your email right from your Windows Media Center. Media center Mail Plugin is completely free to download and use, and is available at the official website of Media Center Mail. The size of this plugin installer is just about 900KB . So the file can be downloaded and installed in seconds.
