ImagiCon is a free icon maker that lets you create custom icons for Windows applications using your image files. You can use BMP, JPG, or PNG image, and ImagiCon will convert that image file to ICO file (this is the file format for Windows icons). You can then use this icon with any Windows application.

This free icon creator has a very simple drag and drop interface to convert JPG, BMP, PNG to ICO. You just need to drag and drop your image file on ImagiCon’s window, and it will convert that to icon. You can also control transparency of icons from Option menu.

Also check out: change folder colors, and Hide/unhide desktop icons.

Here is a step by step tutorial to create custom icons for Windows:

ImagiCon

  1. Download and Install ImagiCon from here.
  2. Run ImagiCon.
  3. Go to “Options” menu, and select output format of converted file. For icons, choose “ICO” format. You can also specify transparency of icons here that you will create.
  4. Now go to the folder that has the image that you want to convert to icon. Drag and drop that image file on ImagiCon’s inteface. If you want to convert multiple files to icons, you can drag and drop all of them together at once.
  5. ImagiCon will convert all of those files to corresponding ICO files, and will save them to you hard drive.

You can also use ImagiCon to convert files to BMP, JPG, and PNG format, but I prefer to use other free bulk image converter for that.
