Instant Heart Rate Monitor is a free application for iPhone which allows you to detect your heart rate just using your iPhone. It uses same techniques used in pulse oximeters to detect your heart rate. All you have to do is place your index finger on the camera of your iPhone and within seconds it will tell you your heart rate. Instant heart rate monitor also tells you how your lifestyle affects your heart rate once you use the application on multiple occasions and tell it the occasion on which you used it. For example there are options like, relaxing, after exercise, before exercise and so on.

How to use Instant Heart Rate Monitor:

As mentioned simply cover the iPhone camera lens with your finger to start monitoring your heart rate. Do not press the lens too hard or you may decrease the blood flow in your finger and that might affect your heart rate. You can simply create an account to synchronize your timeline with Azumio’s server so that you do not loose your data. This is helpful if you are using it for serious purposes. On tapping the ‘i’ you will enter the screen which tells you about the heart zones and their significance so that you can better interpret the data you have obtained from the application. This is used for calculation of heart rate zones.

Stand Up Test: This test is designed to know the fitness level of your heart. When we are sitting or relaxing, our heart rate is slower and when we stand up, the heart rate increases to accommodate for blood flow to legs which are working against gravity. This application measures your resting heart rate and standing heart rate and based on difference between the two tells you your fitness score. The more is this score, more fit are you.

There are some features like synchronization of the data, measuring trends etc. which are only available in the pro version. Also, in this version you can measure your heart rate and store five entries alone. So, the feature of your timeline can be useful only if you are using the pro version. Otherwise for general purposes, this application is really good. Unfortunately, I am no doctor to test the authenticity of this application, but still given the figures while exercising etc. this seems pretty reliable.
