Here is a short tutorial that explains how to customize Lock Screen with apps notification in Windows 8, without installing any additional software.

We all know that Windows 8 has added Lock Screen feature. Whenever, we boot our PC or wake it up, it redirects you to Lock Screen (learn how to disable Windows 8 Lock Screen). You can use this Lock Screen to get notification from different apps. Windows 8 lets you show notification for 7 different apps on the Lock Screen. You can choose all the 7 apps as per your preference, like: Mail app, Calendar app, Weather app, etc and can track their notifications from Windows 8 Lock Screen.

How to See App Notifications on Windows 8 Lock Screen:

To customize lock screen of your Windows 8 PC with apps notification, follow the instructions below:

Step 1: The very first thing that you need to do is open Windows 8 Charm Bar (learn to disable Windows 8 Charm Bar Hint). To open Charm bar, press Windows Key + C, else point to the top/bottom right corner of the screen, then click on Settings option from the bar. After clicking on Settings, click on Change PC Settings option.

Step 2: It will redirect you to PC settings. On the left panel, you will see various PC settings option and on the right side, you will find Personalize options. Under personalize, you will find Lock Screen, with the picture you have set as Lock Screen (Create Wallpapers for your Windows 8 Lock Screen using Custom GraFix). Click on Lock Screen picture to customize it with apps notification.

Step 3: In “Lock screen” option, you will find a category “Lock Screen Apps”. You can choose 7 different apps to run in background and get their notifications on Windows 8 Lock Screen.

Step 4: Tap on any one of the 7 tiles, to add a particular application in that app. It will give you a list of applications that run in background. Choose any one app. Similarly choose apps for other 6 tiles as well. You can chose upto 7 apps for displaying notification on Windows 8 Lock Screen.

Step 5: Lock the Screen to check by pressing Windows key + L. On the Lock Screen, you can see the notifications for the apps you have chosen.

You can change the apps whenever you want. You can even disable the notification option, by choosing “Don’t show quick status here” from the Lock Screen Apps category.

You can use this feature to track weather, unread mails, time, alarms, Network Status, etc from the Windows 8 Lock Screen easily.
