Save Text To File is a free Firefox add-on to automatically save selected text as text file or csv file. So while browsing a website/webpage, whatever you select, it will automatically save to a location specified by you on your PC. It can also add webpage URL, date stamp, time stamp etc., in that file. While reading an article or when you want to quickly save a quote you find online, this is really a handy add-on.

When you don’t want to automatically save the selected text, then you can also customize settings to open a pop up before saving the text. Benefit of that pop up is that you can edit the text before saving, enable/disable option to add time and date stamp, change save location, and more.

While using this extension for the first time, its pop-up window will open to set settings, file name, destination folder location, file format (text or csv), and other options. Using this pop up, you can also use option (Confirm Settings) to disable pop-up window. This will help to directly save the selected text from the next time, without opening the pop-up.

After this, whenever you will select the text, it will be saved automatically to the destination location. Saved file may contain web page address from where the text was selected, date and time stamp, and other entries, as per the settings saved by you.

To enable pop-up window again, you can access Options of this add-on from Add-ons manager.

Conclusion:

Save Text To File is quite interesting and useful add-on. Instead of opening the Notepad again and again to save some text, this add-on can be the best possible solution to save the selected text. It’s completely your choice whether you want to directly save the selected text or first want to open the pop-up window before saving the text.
