i-CAN Free File is a free federal tax return filing website. This website is also a part of the IRS free file alliance. You can prepare and e-file your federal tax return for free only if your adjusted gross income (AGI) is $31,000 or less or if your qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). There is no state restriction, you can file you federal return free from any state.
If you do not qualify for the free filing criteria, then you will be charged $9.99 to e-file you federal return. This also includes state returns if you live in California, Michigan, Montana, New York, or Pennsylvania. You can either e-file or take a print out of your return to send it to the IRS.
