This tutorial explains how to filter YouTube videos by length. Before getting started I would like to mention that YouTube also gives you the option to filter YouTube videos by length. By default on YouTube, you can choose to view videos shorter than 4 minutes or longer than 20 minutes. However, there is no other option to filter YouTube videos longer or shorter than X minutes or user specified duration. The method in this tutorial solves this problem and will allow you to filter YouTube videos longer or shorter than X minutes. In simpler words, you can filter the videos to just see videos longer than 40 minutes or shorter than 3 minutes in the search results or YouTube homepage. You can also filter videos between a specific length, like between 5 minutes to 10 minutes, and so on.

If you want to filter YouTube videos by content, then check out this tutorial which explains how to block YouTube channels. Apart from that, if you are looking for a good YouTube Chrome extension then I will recommend you to check out YouTube Plus which allows you to reverse YouTube playlists, take YouTube video screenshots and other lots of handy features.

How to filter YouTube videos by length:

To filter YouTube videos by length, I will use an open source Google Chrome extension named YouTube Pickalen. You can specify a video duration (in minutes) and this Chrome extension will then filter YouTube videos shorter or longer than it. You can also choose to just see YouTube videos in between a specific length. For this, you have to specify a minimum and maximum length duration and this Chrome extension will then just display YouTube videos longer than the minimum length and shorter than the maximum length. You can use it to filter YouTube videos on YouTube homepage and search results page.

Let’s now see the steps to filter YouTube videos by length:

Step 1: Download this YouTube Chrome extension from the link provide at the end of this tutorial. After that, open YouTube and then click on its Chrome extension icon. You will now see an interface of this Chrome extension where you can specify the length (in minutes) by which you want to filter the YouTube videos. Read the next step to know more about it. At last, click on the Show button and the Chrome extension will then just show the YouTube videos as per the set parameters.

Step 2: Suppose you want to just view YouTube videos longer than 5 minutes then you will have to specify 5 in Longer Than (Minimum) field. After that, hit the Show button, this Chrome extension will then only show YouTube videos longer than 5 minutes and make the videos shorter than 5 minutes disappear (hide them basically). You can also reset the filter results. After resetting the search results, you will see all videos in the search results again. To filter YouTube videos between a specific length, specify a minimum length and maximum length, as shown in the screenshot above and then press the Show button.

So, with these 2 simple steps, you can sort the YouTube videos as per specified length.

Verdict:

In this tutorial, I explained how to filter YouTube videos by length. The method in the tutorial gives you the freedom to filter YouTube videos by specified length (in minutes). You can also use it to see YouTube videos between a specific length. The only limitation in this is that you can only use it on Chrome. However, there is a workaround by which you can use Chrome extension in Opera to filter YouTube videos. For Firefox and Edge, I will come with the solution someday :)
